Project Description Preamble
The CEC labors on behalf of all sonic artists working in Canada, and oftentimes for those around the globe. Part of the CECs mandate is to bring together people to communicate their diversity and formally acknowledge each others work and at the same time promote the wider agenda of electroacoustics to the arts community and to the general public. CEC projects are supported by the global electroacoustics community, and this is displayed by the respect and acknowledgment which the CEC receives, from individual artists to national organizations, from around the world.
Due to the expansive spectrum of activity within electroacoustics and extremely restrictive budgets, the CEC Board chooses to focus on one section of the electroacoustic community per project (like the setting of pillars in the foundation of a large building the overall structure will rest on many different areas of community activity, and everyone will benefit from the ongoing activity). The CEC receives overwhelming community support for each project it undertakes (for example, in 1999, when the CEC applied to the Canada Council for a millennial grant, it received over 50 lengthy, articulate and strongly worded letters of support from community members), but never proceeds without appropriate consultation directly with regional representatives through its listserver <cecpanel> nor without the appropriate technical research, carried out by *PeP*.
The CEC has successfully completed a number of projects which focus on specific areas within the community (Radiophonics, Acoustic Ecology, Women in Electroacoustics, etc.), and this project is a means of celebrating and promoting work being done by a section of the CECs constituency while being wholly supported by a substantial number of members of the greater community.
